Excerpts from Amy . . .

April 23, 2008

Since the summer of 2006, my first shipment of 4,000 toys to Iraq, I've had the honor to meet so many incredible individuals since the making of "Hearts of America." Some of them being individuals that I met while doing collection efforts, some being recipients of Hearts of America, and some even being families of those serving in the Middle East. I feel very blessed to have been given such an opportunity to meet each one, words alone can't not express my gratitude.

I've been contemplating about sharing some of my experiences and have decided to share some of them for I've had the opportunity to sit with many of these men and women and learned about their families, hobbies, goals, dreams, and thier life experiences. I've met individuals that have lost loved ones during the turmoil in the Middle East, and I've hugged them as tears rolled down our faces. There have been times that I've caught soldiers perhaps at thier lowest point during deployment, and I've listened to them being so excited about being reunited with thier spouses, children, friends and doing the simple things that I take for granted on a daily basis.

You know...we all have receive e-mails from friends, colleagues, and family members. We all admire the neat pics that touch the core of our hearts. Today, I have something to share with you that will make you very proud, than any other attachment that you might have received. I just recently learned that one of Hearts of America's recipients, LTC Mike Mansi wrote the attached poem. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have. It is with great honor and pleasure to have the privilege to be the first to post his work. Thank you Mike for serving for The United States of America, for the second time in Iraq. This poem certainly gives each of us something to think about.
